What's New in the MPA Program
Fall class
We are excited to introduce the Fall 2018 NKU MPA class! Our newest students have brought their passion for public service to the classroom, and their energy is palpable. 

MPA Events
Open House
For our Fall Reception this year, the MPA program hosted an Open House on September 25. This was an opportunity for current and prospective students to meet each other and alumni, tour the new space, and learn about the mentoring program.

SAVE THE DATE! The Spring Banquet will be Wednesday, April 4, 5:30 - 7 p.m.


Regional and National Awards
Rebecca
Rebecca Volpe (MPA 2006) was recently selected for an award from America's Small Business Development Center. In addition, Alisa Berry (MPA 2004) was selected for the WE Lead program in the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Faculty Spotlight
Five Points
MPA Director Dr. Julie Olberding was interviewed on WVXU about her book "Social Enterprise and Special Events: Market-Based Approaches to Mission-Driven Gatherings."


Student Highlights
Erin
Erin Owen researched and wrote a literature review on employment engagement in her Foundations of Public Administration (PAD 500) class. She developed the paper into a presentation for an industry conference and, due to high ratings, into a webinar.

Alumni Highlights
Paula
Paula Brehm-Heeger (MPA 2016) has been named as director of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County after a national search during which she served as Interim Director. The PLCH is one of the oldest, largest and busiest public library systems in the United States. (It is second busiest next to the New York Public Library.)



New Jobs and Promotions
  • Alisa Berry (MPA 2004) was hired as Director of Regional Community Corrections at the Talbert House.
  • Jenny Brady (MPA 2012) started as Executive Director of SOTENI International, a nonprofit organization based in Cincinnati that addresses HIV/AIDS challenges in rural Kenya.
  • Kyle Dorriere (MPA 2017) accepted a position with Kentucky Campus Compact as an AmeriCorps VISTA focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
  • Jim Flick (2010) is the new Director of Economic Development and Public Information Officer for Deerfield Township, Ohio.
  • Rhea Floyd (MPA student) started as Development Associate with Great Parks Forever, the philanthropic partner of Great Parks of Hamilton County.
  • Jeremy Worley (MPA student) was selected as Program Development Director at the Center for Local Government, a nonprofit consortium of 54 local governments in Greater Cincinnati.
  • Tom Haggard (MPA student) was promoted to Associate Director at Covington Partners.
  • John Hennessey (MPA student) is the new Financial Aid Officer for the Brighton Center’s Work Force Development program.
  • Andrew Lanser (MPA 2016) started as an Analyst with The Novak Consulting Group (TNCG), which works to strengthen local governments and nonprofit organizations.
  • After 14 years of service at NKU, Josh Neumeyer (MPA 2012) stepped into the role of Finance and Grants Manager at Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati (ETC).
  • Mayra Sidler Guzman (MPA student) became the Rise Program Associate with Cooperative for Education, a nonprofit with a mission dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty in Guatemala through educational programs.
