What's New in the MPA Program

The NKU MPA program was featured in Newsweek’s list of “Leading Public Affairs, Policy & Administration Programs 2021.” Our MPA program is the only one in the region accredited by NASPAA.

Our Spring Celebration was a hit, with almost 50 recent grads and familiar faces joining virtually to welcome our new alumni.

Congratulations to Dr. Julie Olberding and Dr. Megan Downing on their publication in the Journal of Nonprofit Education and Leadership (JNEL). This study is one of the first to examine student philanthropy in online classes.

Leo Calderón (MPA 1995) prepares to retire from his 35-year career at NKU. One of Leo's most important contributions was establishing Latino Programs and Services in 2001, now serving over 600 students as Latino Student Initiatives.

The Foundations of Public Administration class worked on the Mayerson Student Philanthropy Project, selecting the Center for Closing the Health Gap and the Ohio Justice & Policy Center (OJPC) for grants.
New Jobs and Promotions
  • Jennifer Carskadon Danner (MPA 2008; NPM Certificate 2008) has been selected as the Operations Manager for the Covington Business Council.
  • Alaina Hagenseker (MPA 2019) has started a new position as Planning and Zoning Specialist for Monroe, Ohio.
  • Tim Haizlip (MPA 2003) is the new Vice President of Maintenance and Asset Management for Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG).
  • Sara Imhulse (MPA 2004) has been selected as the new City Administrator of Westminster, Maryland.
  • David Johnston (MPA 2008) has been promoted to Captain in the Cincinnati Police Department.
  • Sherri Jones (MPA 2019) is now Assistant Director of Compliance in the Office of Financial Assistance at Northern Kentucky University.
  • Devin Mason (MPA 2019) has been promoted to Financial Crimes Fraud Operations Supervisor at Fifth Third Bank.
  • Justin Otto (MPA 2009) has been named Economic and Community Development Director for Campbell County, Kentucky.
  • Erin Owen (MPA 2018) is now the Central Scheduling Manager at the Cincinnati Health Department.
  • Tom Perry (MPA 2021) is the new Community Development Analyst at the Ohio Development Services Agency.
  • Sydney Renner (MPA 2021) was hired as the Emergency Plans Assistant for Warren County Emergency Management.
  • Cheneè Young (MPA 2015) is now serving as a Housing Specialist with the Housing Assistance Council.
